The Hartford HealthCare Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital has been named one of America’s Best Hospitals for Orthopedics by the Women’s Choice Award, placing it in the top 7% of 4,728 U.S. hospitals offering orthopedic services.
A hospital must have arthroscopy, joint replacement and spine surgery orthopedic services available to patients, onsite physical therapy, and an MRI in order to qualify for the award.
“This recognition underscores not only the exceptional dedication that our experts have to quality and safety, but also the value of having a variety of services patients need under one roof,” said Bimal Patel, president of Hartford Hospital and senior vice president of Hartford HealthCare. “The Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital offers our patients access to highly skilled experts as well as the latest technology and comprehensive services related to their recovery journey – all right here.”
In a national survey conducted by the Women’s Choice Award, female orthopedic patients identified key priorities when choosing a hospital for orthopedics, including a single source for orthopedic services, a solid patient safety record, and high recommendation ratings.
The methodology uses Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results along with primary research about women’s healthcare preferences. Award recipients are also measured on their incidence of surgical complications and infections, including:
- A wound that splits open after surgery
- Accidental cuts and tears
- Deaths from serious treatable complications
- Rate of complications for knee or hip replacement patients
- Catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI)
- Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureu (MRSA) infections
Hartford Hospital is one of 316 award recipients representing the hospitals that have met the highest standards for orthopedics care in the U.S. by the Women’s Choice Award.
